According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA) fruits are loaded with vitamins, minerals, and fiber and should be a part of a diabetic’s diet. Even so, be careful about portion sizes and stay away from fruits canned in syrups or other types of added sugar.
Everyday Health lists at least eight fruits that are good for diabetics to eat and enjoy.
Eat Berries for Antioxidants
Indulge in your favorite berries whether they are blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, black berries or any other type of berries. According to the ADA, berries are a diabetes super food because they’re packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and fiber and are low-carb. You can just pop them in your mouth or try berries in a parfait or smoothie for dessert.
Eat Cherries to Fight Inflammation
Twelve sweet cherries have 59 calories and 14 grams of carbohydrates, but tart cherries might be an especially good choice because they are loaded with antioxidants. Tart cherries contain more anti-inflammatory agents than any other fruit. Cherries can be eaten fresh, canned, frozen, or dried.
Eat Peaches for Potassium
Peaches can be included in your low-carb diabetic diet. They contain vitamins A and C, potassium, and fiber. Peaches can be eaten as they are, or put into iced tea for a fruity twist, or used in a smoothie by pureeing peach slices with low-fat buttermilk, crushed ice, and a touch of cinnamon or ginger.

You have heard that an apple a day will keep the doctor away. An apple is a great fruit with just 54 calories and 14 carb grams. Apples are also loaded with fiber and a good source of vitamin C. Eat the apple and the peels because the skins are full of antioxidants.
Eat Oranges for Vitamin C
When you eat one orange you get all the vitamin C you need in a day. An orange has only 15 grams of carbohydrates and 62 calories. Oranges also contain folate and potassium, which can help normalize blood pressure.
Eat Pears for Potassium and Fiber
Pears are a low-carb fruit and are a good source of potassium and fiber. Eat pears just as they are or cut them into pieces and put into your salads.
Eat Low-Carb Kiwi
A delicious kiwi is a good source of potassium, fiber, and vitamin C. One large kiwi has about 56 calories and 13 grams of carbohydrates. Therefore, it’s a smart addition to your diabetic diet.
